Holy Family Parish Church in Iklin

In the 1980s the population of the area surrounding Iklin started to increase, and so the community of Iklin was formed.
In view of this, the Parish Priest of Lija, Fr. (today Mons.) Alfred Xuereb started offering pastoral services to this area of the Town. And thus, the Centre for Catechism for children was established by Fr. Xuereb. A garage was eventually rented out so that holy mass could be celebrated there.

On 16th June 2000 the first stone of the new Centre was blessed and laid by the Archbishop, Mons. Ġużeppi Mercieca.

On 19th March 2002, the Archbishop officially inaugurated the new Centre which now comprised a church, rooms for catechism lessons for children, a meeting hall, a youth centre, and a parish office.

On 15th February 2003, Iklin was declared an autonomous parish with all the faculties and obligations attributed to any other local parish. The Canon Karm Aquilina was appointed Rector of the Area, taking care of all the obligations associated with a parish church.
The Church we are viewing was originally planned to be a hall under a church which was yet to be built. This was designed by the architect Jojo Delia, and further modified by the Gozitan artist Manuel Farrugia and the architect Kurt Meilak.
On 6th May 2017, the new Parish Church was consecrated. Solemn mass was celebrated by Mons. Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta, who, as a young priest, was one of the first priests who saw to the religious needs of the community of Iklin. The Archbishop consecrated the Main Altar, and the Parish Church of Iklin was dedicated to the Holy Family.

The Titular Painting
The Knight Paul Camilleri Cauchi painted this work of art in 2007. This Painting represents the Family of Nazareth, Jesus, Joseph and Mary - the Holy Family, to whom the Church is dedicated.
